Overview
The Oman Chamber of Commerce needed to digitise its import and export certification process — moving businesses from physical visits and paper-based applications to a fully online workflow. Awsm built the certification portal on WordPress, integrating Smart Card authentication for government-grade identity verification and Digital Signature integration for legally binding document signing. The platform now manages the full certification lifecycle for logistics movements across Oman, as part of the country’s national e-services modernisation agenda.

The Client
The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the national body representing the business community in Oman — a key institution in facilitating trade, commerce, and economic activity across the Sultanate. A central part of their mandate is the management of import and export certification — issuing the certificates of origin and related documentation that govern the movement of goods in and out of Oman.
The Challenge
Certification for import and export logistics had traditionally required physical visits, paper-based applications, and manual verification. The Oman Chamber of Commerce needed to digitise this process as part of Oman’s broader e-services agenda — enabling businesses to submit applications, verify identity, sign documents, and receive certificates online.
The platform needed to meet the security and legal requirements of a government e-services system: verified identity, legally binding digital signatures, and a reliable workflow that businesses could depend on for time-sensitive logistics operations.
What We Built
Online Certification Web Application
A full web application on WordPress — enabling businesses to submit import and export certification applications online, track their status, and receive certificates digitally.
Smart Card Login Integration
Standard username and password authentication is insufficient for a government platform handling legally significant certifications. We integrated Smart Card authentication — users authenticate using a government-issued Smart Card via a card reader, with the certificate on the card verified against the national PKI (Public Key Infrastructure).
This provides:
- Government-grade identity verification
- A higher level of assurance than password-based login
- Compliance with Oman’s digital identity standards for e-services
Digital Signature Integration
Documents signed through the platform carry legally binding Digital Signatures — using the user’s Smart Card certificate to produce a cryptographically verified signature recognised under Omani law and accepted by trade partners.
Certification Workflow
- The platform manages the full certification lifecycle:
- Application submission by businesses
- Document upload and verification
- Review and approval by Chamber staff
- Certificate issuance and delivery
- Application tracking and status updates throughout
Results
-
A fully digital import/export certification process for Oman’s business community
-
Government-grade Smart Card authentication protecting a legally significant workflow

A platform contributing to Oman’s national e-services modernisation agenda
